My New Year's Goals for 2017

My New Year's Goals for 2017

Okay, I know. It *is* indeed a little cliche to sit down and write out your new year's resolutions or goals. However, studies show that those who write down their goals are more successful (even Harvard has noted the importance of it), meaning that writing out your resolutions will probably work in your favour. So here we go, below are my top 15 new year's resolutions/goals of 2017!

1) Practice Guitar and Piano Once a Week

A few years ago I received a beautiful guitar for my birthday, however, unfortunately it has sat untouched for the majority of the time it has lived in my room. Same goes for the piano I own. It too was a birthday gift, but I never got past learning a song. Trust me when I say that I really want to learn, but until now my ever-changing schedule has gotten in the way of enrolling in lessons. In 2017 I plan to take lessons and learn the beautiful instruments that I yearn to play.

2) Keep Learning Spanish and French

This year Duolingo and I will hopefully become good friends. In 2015 I had the opportunity to take an intensive French-immersion program in Toronto, and this year I took an Introductory Spanish course. In 2017 I hope to actively continue my practice of these languages, keeping my abilities in shape - even if it is only for 5 minutes a day.

3) Join a Fitness Class

I have always been horrible at maintaining a regular workout schedule and tend to workout randomly. However 2017 seems like it could be the year to change this. More specifically, I have my eyes set on a yoga or dance class.

4) Push my Creativity

In today's world which is constantly changing, creativity and innovation is needed to stay ahead. Therefore, in 2017 I hope to build upon my design and video editing skills (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and I are about to become reaaalll close too).

5) Maintain my Public Skills

Due to the positions that I have held up to this point, I have been able to constantly hone my public speaking skills. This is something that I definitely want to maintain. To accomplish this I may enrol once again in an acting class (it does wonders for teaching you how to respond on the fly, and makes your imagination soar).

6) Set a "Big" Goal and Work Towards it

Recently I read B.C. Business Magazine's 2016 "Top 30 Under 30", and I have to say, I have been inspired to think about my future and what I want to accomplish. I hope to begin working on a business idea, or another way that I can improve the world.

7) Explore and Travel More

I've learned this year especially, that there are many adventures to be had that don't require one to travel far. Even a short hike counts as exploring in my mind. This year I want to continue my travels, both near and far from home. Who knows where I will go in 2017???

8) Organize my Bathroom

Okay, this seems a little bit out of place. However, ladies you must feel me here. When it comes to getting ready in the morning, efficiency is key. This year I am going to invest in more cabinet organizers - woohoo!

9) Regularly Create Content

Blogging, photography, and videography is something that I enjoy, but is also something that I fail to maintain a schedule for. My goal is to pencil time in for these activities so that I can consistently generate content for myself.

10) Eat Out Less

I have a bad habit of always failing to create meals before I start my day, leaving me to pay a large price for what tends to be a mediocre food. This year I hope to do more at home meal prep, saving me from fast-food.

11) Read More Books

I believe that reading is SO important for your imagination, as well as to grow as a communicator. While in university, reading typically becomes a task due to the large amount of textbook material. However, now I want to focus on completing the pile of books I currently have on my desk and on my to-read list.

12) Use More Natural Products

This is something that I began to think a lot more about in 2016, and hope to continue doing. With so many toxins around us, I feel like we should do what we can to stay away from them. Therefore in 2017 I am focusing on slowly adopting more natural products, from organic shampoos to makeup with natural ingredients.

13) Expand my Social Network

I have to admit, I am not a fan of networking events. However, as a business graduate, I do understand the importance of networking. Therefore it is my goal to attend more networking events or to just "get out there" and meet new connections.

14) Connect More With Family and Friends

15) Relax More

Although I have given myself a long to-do list above, I feel like this resolution is much, much, MUCH needed. I truly don't give myself the breaks that I deserve, all of the time. Although I definitely will not sacrifice my work ethic, in 2017 I will schedule daily moments for myself. Time where I can think, reflect, watch Netflix, or curl up with a book.

Well there we have it! All of my resolutions written down in cyberspace and exposed to the world! I'm hoping that this exposure will pressure me to continuously strive towards them. Also now that you've seen my goals, don't forget to set your own!
